Hi to all you fellow Amsterslamers.
You will no doubt have received Matt's 'War and Peace' e-mail

Why not log on and introduce yourself to the group, ask questions, tell us how your training is going, tell us how you are raising sponsorship etc etc.

I'm Andy, ride guide and bike fettler. I live on Teesside, I have now ridden 4 Charity Adventure rides. I mainly ride on road but do like to get the MTB out now and again.

I'm looking forward to the ride and will be at the CTC York rally on the Charity Adventure stand where I hope you look us up. 8)

Hi to all you 'slammers and pls help with logistical problem

Hello all

I'm Mel and I'm a first time Charity Adventurer, very much looking forward to joining the ride and meeting you all. I'm from Cornwall, live in Bristol and work for Sustrans the cycling charity - so if any of you have taken part in the Sea2Sea ride raising money for Sustrans then thank you very much!

Anyway, I'm not sure what to do about travelling up and back and possibly staying over in York - is anyone else making a similar journey/staying over the night before the start and can offer a lift with bike space (I will pay!) or can recommend a cheap place to stay? Any ideas welcome. Current plan is to get a train with my bike and stay in a hostel the night before we set off, then book a late train back with bike at the end of day 5 rather than staying over, but this is all looking very expensive so if anyone can help me with a cheaper option or wants to be train buddies then that would be great.

That's all for now, hope everyone's training and fundraising is going well.
Mel :D

Welcome to the forum Mel.

Accommodation is plentiful in York. All price ranges.

I stayed at the York YHA last year. Pretty central, just a short riverside ride from the station.
Food was great as was the service. Good lock up facilities for bikes. As a non member I paid £18 per night.

Only problem is it gets full quickly and is almost always over subscribed, so early booking is essential.

The Amsterslam meeting place is just off the A64 ring road, Junction with A19, south of York at McArthur Glen shopping mall. Easy enough to find. you can ride the cycle route from opposite the YHA through York past the Knavesmire Race course and down to the bridge over the River Ouse at Naburn, where you leave the cycle route and take the road. The B1222 takes you directly to the shopping centre. Not a bad start to the day.
No doubt you have a Sustrans map showing said route. OS Landranger 105,
grid 607478 shows McArthur Glen. :D

Further to my last post, I have just booked a bed at York YHA for Thurs 9th July.

Cost £21.95 including breakfast. I plan to eat enough at the buffet breakfast to make my accommodation free!!

Let me know if you book the YHA and maybe we can meet up for a drink on the night.

Thanks

Thanks for this Andy, will have to make a plan soon then! But that all sounds good, and as you are staying there too we can set off together in the morning and I won't need to test my mapreading skills! Anyone else want to join us?

Hi again

Just to say I've decided to stay somewhere closer to the Designer Outlet as then I don't have to get up so early! Staying at a B & B called Pinfold Cottage so if anyone else is staying there too then let me know, otherwise I'll be meeting you all for the first time at 8am on the 10th!

Can't wait!

Mel
