Welcome back to the land of the living Jana! I hope you're now over your illness!!

Time to get back out on the bike and catch up!!

And hi Marie! Thanks for your input on Saturday, I'm sure some of your suggestions on fundraising have given people a few new ideas!

When I get a sec I'll unroll the xmas wrapping paper that we wrote down some suggestions on and type them up into here... feel free to add the bits you mentioned (or any others!) to that list if I've missed anything!

Recovering fom illness and the effects on training

Postby Val Reynolds on Mon Apr 21, 2008 12:26 pm

I picked up virus at the end of Feb that went to my trachea and have only been able to train very sporadically since beginning of April. Today I cycled 12 miles in 1hr 18 mins, which is much slower than usual and felt pretty whacked out at the end of it. I'm beginning to doubt I will be fit enough to cycle 60 miles a day, I'm worried that I will be so weak I will fall off the bike at some stage.

I'm so surprised my fitness/stamina levels have dropped so fast and so low. I'm looking into getting recovery products, Torq Recovery has been recommended - it is all natural, no ghastly chemicals like sorbitol, asparthame. There are gels and bars to consume during the ride too.

Wondered how Jana is coping with training.

Blimey Val. It sounds like you've been through the wars!

You'll have to keep me updated on how you're feeling over the next couple of weeks. If you have any doubts in your mind about your ability to finish the event then maybe we need to chat? We run this thing every year you know, so there's always the option of withdrawing gracefully and trying again next time around!

If, however, you feel like you will be ok then we're more than happy to have you along. We do have the support cars, although I'm sure you wouldn't want to spend days in those!

Yes, thanks, think I have beaten the bug - but yes, it does feel like a hell of catching up to do :? Just need another 24 hours in the day and some nice weather and I'll be fine...

Val, might be worth trying co-enzyme Q10 supplements, I read on another forum they are very good to help with illness recovery, have been swallowing loads myself after this flu bug and seem to have got over the post-flu fatigue a lot quicker than usual....Might be worth a try, can't do any harm....
