CharityAdventure Big Bike Ride - Nov 16th - from 6pm

Postby matt on Tue Oct 23, 2007 9:35 pm

And so I found myself thinking - what could CharityAdventure do for Children in Need? Well with the help of my work, I've gone and hired the biggest bike I could find - it seats 24 people. Yup - that's 24 people. You read correctly. You can see it here http://www.charitybikes.co.uk/gallery.html

What I need now are teams of 25 people to ride the bike on the night and to raise as much money for Children in Need as possible! Why 25 people? The bike seats 23 plus a driver from the hire company. Also some people may not be able to attend on the night. The entry fee for a company team is £250 but what do you get for that? As well as rider entry, your company will have shared space on a banner that measures a total of 3.8m by 0.8m - it's double-sided so your logo will be visible from either side of the street. No doubt there will be media present on the night (because we'll tell them!) and there is also the distinct possibility of TV exposure if we get invited into the studios! After all we'll be right outside and Children in Need do know about this event. We'll need to know about company teams by November 2nd at the very latest so we can have all your artwork and order the banner.

If you want to enter your own non-corporate team, rider entry costs £5 per person. That’s only a couple of pints or a bottle of reasonably priced wine each – not much you’ll agree! Add on to that any sponsorship money you can raise, and that's a stack of cash for Children in Need!

As if the bike isn't a big enough draw, the teams will be in fancy dress, will be making a lot of noise (there are airhorns on the bike :D ) and raising a lot of cash for Children in Need! There will be a trophy for the best fancy dress, loudest team and team that raises the most money!

In keeping with the CharityAdventure ethos, all profit made by the event, as well as all sponsorship raised by riders will go straight to the Children in Need Appeal.

For more details or if you want to take part, it's best to email me at matt@charityadventure.org.uk. Probably after tomorrow you can call my mobile - I lost it on a ride around Haworth on Saturday, but someone found it and stuck it in the post! My number is 07969491426.

Cheers,

Matt.

Alan - that's fantastic! Thanks very much!

Gaz just told me now!

We'll sort out the banner if you can provide some artwork. We can either meet up or you can mail it to my charityadventure address.

Once again, that's superb - really appreciate it!

Cheers,

Matt.

No worries. I guess that means you can put my name down for it too.
Talking to a friend who is up for been on the team, and she suggested we could theme the fancy dress as Wacky Races! what do you recon?

Also could we have a bit more detail of what will be happening on the night; are we cycling far? Where will it be held, what time?
Do we need a police escort?

A Police Escort isn't needed although I'm trying to get my neighbours who are PCs to put a team in!

The start time and route will depend on number of teams. The idea is to give a team their own start time so that people aren't hanging around unnecessarily. The proposed route is no more than a mile - if there aren't that many teams then we'll just do a few laps! We'll be starting off in Briggate.

Excellent idea with regard to the Fancy Dress - like it! Only need another 21 people now!

What I do need from you is some artwork in order to put on the banner - I need that by Friday at the latest. I finish work at 2pm (having started at 6:00am) so I can easily pop into town to collect it. Oh and before I forget, could you make the cheque for £250 to CharityAdventure please!

Can you give me your mobile phone please? Cheers!

I have sent an email asking for some artwork, I will forward this on to you as soon as I get it. Also asked for payment to be sent to you.

I know you lost your phone, but no, I can’t give you my mobile phone, I need it myself. I can however tell you my number: 07956075300

I know!

Except they made stuff up, misquoted us and didn't mention CharityAdventure!

And they got my surname wrong.

I mean it's only 4 letters long and 3 of those are in common usage as a suffix.

It's not difficult, is it.

Mustn't grumble. Much.

Mission Accomplished!

A really BIG thank you to all who turned up on the night! We had fairies, pirates, Wacky Racers, pink-wigged cats and some people in shorts who were meant to be cyclists! I knew it was going to be a great night when Gaz turned up on his wheeled coat-hanger - sorry Gaz I just couldn't stop laughing, but all credit to ya matey! And going round that corner was just magic!

From the extra riders and from the bucket, we raised £295! Add the online total and that comes to £500! But there's more - and I'll let you know when all the teams let me know how much sponsorship they've raised.

Once again, thanks for coming and I hope you had fun! God only knows how we top this one....hmmm, it has to be big and something that no one in their right minds would do....watch this space!

Cheers,
Matt.
