Bike tweaking and tinkering

Postby adriver on Tue Sep 23, 2008 3:41 pm

On the Thursday I will be arriving fairly early to help people setup their bikes. If anyone wants any help adjusting gears, brakes, seats and handle bars etc then I will be more than happy to help. Probably a good idea to do this before we setoff, then if any parts are needed Evans is right there.

Looking forward to the ride!

Thanks Al. This will be really helpful.

As I mentioned, it's looking like we'll need to remove all the wheels and pack the single trailer very carefully anyway, so bring some marigolds as it could get messy!!!

It would be good to mark the wheels too.... We had a hell of a time last year trying to match wheels we'd taken off to the bikes!!!! Chalk the name on the tyre maybe?!?!

I'd also like to offer my technical support. Unfortunately we won't be there until the evening on Thursday, but once we get set up on Friday and at any point on the ride, I'm happy to sort any problems out. Especially those little irritating things like mis-shifting gears and brakes pulling unevenly.

Also good advice from Craz about writing your name in chalk, if your wondering where to get chalk from, check your puncture repair kit!

Thanks guys. Just wondering do we need to bring anything to wrap the bike in in the trailer? Not that I've got a bad case of new bike syndrome or anything

We've never wrapped the bikes up before but if you feel very strongly about it bring something along (are you thinking box or duvet?!?)!! We could always put your bike under the bus instead of in the trailer if you're that worried?!?

Personally, my bike looks better with war wounds  but the amount of bikes we'll be packing together won't leave much room for movement once we get underway (especially with the wheels already off)!

Thanks for the advice :) Nah, was just fretting and wondering what everyone else was doing! Sounds like I won't need to bring anything..

Tinkering

Postby Andy Wills on Thu Sep 25, 2008 9:08 am

I too should arrive early on Thursday. I will be staying overnight at York YHA on wednesday, then riding over to Castleford AM on Thursday.

Help etc freely given, will bring tools.

Frame protection. I use plumbers pipe insulating foam. I also picked up some old BMX frame foam from my local bike shop. Add gaffa tape and the jobs done.

Not long to go now :D
